Special Programs

• Horizons – This program was developed to challenge the academically gifted, creative, and talented child. It utilizes a differentiated curriculum, strives to develop higher level thinking skills, and relies on the interests and strengths of students as it pursues thematic “Super Studies”. The class develops independence in research and in problem solving. Students are admitted to the program by invitation, and are ordinarily on the King’s Honor Roll, have an I.Q. in the 90th%ile range or higher, score in the 90th%ile on achievement tests, and are well motivated and creative. An additional fee is also charged for this program.

• Discoveries – The Discoveries program provides individualized instruction for those with mild learning difficulties, or remedial needs in specific subject or skill areas. Small classes, positive learning experiences, and the use of multiple teaching techniques provide a supportive and successful environment for helping these children to reach their academic potential. Additional tuition is charged for this program, available to students in grades 1-8.

• PLUS Class – (Pupils Learning in a Unique Setting) This class is designed to provide an opportunity for a Christian education to students with learning difficulties that cannot be met in a regular classroom. The teachers treat all children as special and work to guide them academically, emotionally, and spiritually to achieve their potential. PLUS is a multi-grade, multi-age level class, taught by two teachers in a self-contained classroom. Like Discoveries, this program has its own tuition schedule.

• FastForWord After School Program -  Christ the king Lutheran School will again offer an After School Reading program using the FastForWord Computer Technology beginning January 26, 2009 through March 6 for six weeks.  This unique program uses cognitive exercises to improve cognitive memory, attention, sequencing, processing rate, and reading fluency.  Instruction is provided in word recognition, phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary skills.  Skill development in these areas produces a better reader who has greater success in the classroom.  The program is especially beneficial to students with LD and ADD/ADHD.

Parents of children who have already participated in the program have stated how it has helped their child feel more confident with reading independently, and completing homework by themselves.  One parent said she noticed how much her child's word recognition skills had improved, and how much better he remembered directions and class instruction.  In addition, our staff has been very pleased with the excellent progress CTK students have made using this technology in our own PLUS and Discoveries classes.  Diagnostic Testing is done before the program begins, and after completion to evaluate student progress

FastForword consists of one hour sessions beginning at 3:30, five days a week for a six week period.  Additional information is available by clicking on the link to the right which takes you directly to the Scientific Learning Website at www/scilearn.com.  You may also contact CTK School at 682-8405.
