Religion: Through the study of Bible stories and the memorizing of Scripture, each student will know that he/she is God's own dear child and that Jesus has won his/her salvation through His death and resurrection. Their response is to joyfully share the Good News of Jesus' love with their family and friends.
Reading: In order to read well and understand what is being read, students will work on becoming better strategic readers: they will learn how to think about what is being read and how to use specific reading strategies. They will read various works of literature from many genres and work on comprehension, predicting outcomes, cause and effect and other reading skills.
Math: Numbers are all around us. The students in third grade willl continue to fine tune their addition and subtraction skills along with regrouping in addition and subtraction. They will continue working with place value, time, money, measurement, geometry, fractions, and decimals. This is the year that students will learn about multiplication and memorize the tables through 12 x 12. We are using the Saxon Math Program.
English /Spelling / Writing: Communication is essential in our everyday lives. In third grade English/Spelling/Writing, the students will be learning how to write good sentences: the correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and usage, etc. so that they will be able to communicate more effectively though their speaking and writing.
Science: God has created a beautiful world in which we live. In third grade science, we will take a closer look at our world. We will study the following: Living Things; Lift It! Push It! Pull It!; Matter and Energy; The Sun and its Family; Rocks and Resources; Where Living Things Live; and The Human Body: Keeping Healthy.
Social Studies: Our focus in third grade Social Studies will be communities: different types of communities, the history of various communities, important people in communities, how communities help others, and how we can be good citizens in our own community.

Dear Families,
Welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Mrs. Michella Novy, and I will be your child's 3rd grade teacher for the 09-10 school year. I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child and become better acquainted with you.
For the past fourteen years, I have taught at Christ the King Lutheran School in the areas of Pre-School, Discoveries, 3rd grade, and 4th grade. I also taught 3rd grade for two years in the Shelby County Schools System, and have worked in other areas of the education field in Nebraska and Michigan. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and have been blessed with 2 children: Jeanette and Mark.
I will do my very best to meet your child's needs and to help him/her develope spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. I firmly believe that each child can reach his/her potential if he/she is willing to work and is given the chance to do his/her best. You can help your child reach all of his/her potential by making sure he/she gets a good night's sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and comes to school ready to apply himself/herself.
Parents are the backbone of the classroom. It is very important that we work together as a team to provide the most successful and positive educational experience for your 3rd grader. Working together, we can insure that the educational needs of your student are met. Your help and cooperation are greatly appreciated!
I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!
In Christ,
Mrs. Michella Novy
