4th Grade Curriculum
Religion: The course is a chronological study of Bible stories, beginning with the creation of all things by God. The lessons are based on selected, sequential Bible stories that span biblical history from Genesis through the formation of the early church and the beginning ministry of the apostle Paul. Each lesson centers on the cross of Christ and is grounded in the Word of God, through which the Holy Spirit works to create, strengthen, and sustain saving faith.
Reading: "Celebrate Reading" is an integrated curriculum that uses authentic literature to help develop strong readers, writers, communicators, and thinkers. Much of the emphesis is put on comprehension with links to spelling and vocabulary skills.
Language Arts: In English we focus on providing instruction and practice for grammer, usage, and mechanics skills. These skill are applied through direct instruction in writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills. Our phonics book provides for additional practice in decoding and word study skills. We also have a separate spelling text to provide weekly practice in spelling and vocabulary.
Math: The math curriculum focuses on number theory and concepts, operations with much attention given to multiplication and division of larger numbers, ratio, proportion, and percent, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability, patterns,properties, and algebraic expressions and problem-solving skills and strategies.
Social Studies: We will view each region of the United States through the use of maps, charts, graphs, photos, and illustrations. In each region we will look at the environment and the history and economy.
Science: The units will take us through the branches of science with special attention given to the categories of life science, earth science physical science, and the human body.
Specialty Subjects: We also have periods each week for Spanish, Art, Computer, Physical Education, music, and a classroom guidance/couseling time.
