I believe in the development of the whole child--social, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually--through developmentally appropriate activities. I also try to encourage family involvement by keeping the family informed through daily notes and weekly letters. I have an open classroom policy and encourage parents to visit, participate in parties, special events, chapels, or by enriching our class with their particular talents.
Literacy: Promote phonemic awareness through games, songs, rhymes, and stories.
Math: Lay the foundation for mathematical principles through the use of manipulatives, sequencing activities, measurement, patterning, problem solving, data recording, graphing, and shape recognition.
Science: Hands on experiments such as baking bread, planting seeds, growing vegetables, studying plants, animals, and insects provide an introduction to scientific thought and procedures.
Social/emotional: Activities centers promote time for free choices that encourage social interaction, sharing, and problem solving skills.
Creative Art: Moving to music, dramatic play, painting, and drawing allow the freedom to choose and create. I focus on the process, not the product.
Physical and Health: Small and large muscles are developed through art, dance, games, and outdoor play.
Spiritual: A Christian foundation is built through stories, dramatic play, Chapel, and by mirroring Christ-like love kindness, acceptance, and compassion.
