Here is what we are planning to teach this year in the following areas.
Spiritual Development: Learning that God is our friend. God is always in our heart. Learning about God’s wonderful creations. We will be learning through traditional bible stories and songs, by using flannel boards, puppets, magnets, and props.
Cognitive and Language Development: Each skill introduced will connect to a learning task during free play in the morning we will work on matching, sorting, puzzle building, with objects and on paper. We will be demonstrating auditory processing, logic and reasoning skills as we read stories, listen to and sing songs, and act out stories and make believe scenarios.
Motor Development: Fine motor skills will be developed with the children by using the tripod grasp when holding a crayon. Develop beginning writing skills by making horizontal and vertical lines; begin to make circles and squares. By end of year begin to make letters in name. The children will explore a wide variety of manipulatives such as blocks, duplos, connecting rings, gears, puzzles, etc.to fine tune their motor skills. The children will be exposed to bean bags, soft foam balls, sponges, kick balls, and beach balls to learn how to throw and catch. During music time we will work on jumping, skipping, hopping, snapping, and clapping to rhythm.
Creative Development: The child will explore a wide variety of art materials such as paint, crayons, markers, stickers, glitter glue, buttons, fabric, beads, tissue paper., and natural materials. We will use brushes, sponges, straws, cotton balls and nature items while using glue and paint. I let the children be free with their projects. My philosophy is “ the process is more important than the product”. Please praise your child on their art projects. Ask open-ended questions about their creations. Please do not throw their artwork away in front of the child. Have a special place at home to display artwork. Change it seasonal. Keep your favorites in a special box.
As a parent , I understand that you are your child’s first and most influential teacher. To help me maximize your child’s potential, I ask you that you work with me as a team. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for us. We appreciate all insights. Please keep up with class and school newsletters. You will be asked periodically to bring in certain items. Children feel proud that they brought something from home.
If you have any concerns please feel free to call or e-mail me to ask a question or schedule a meeting.

Welcome to CTK Preschool 3’s! My name is Peggy Decker and I am the lead teacher. Here’s a little about myself. I have a Home Economics degree from Penn State University. I have taught Home Economics at the high school level, community college, adult daycare centers, Alzheimer daycare centers, and in a retail store. This was all before I had my son Paul, who is now 21. When my son was a baby, and for 10 years, I did interior decorator work from my home. This will be my 10th year teaching at CTK and I taught 2 years previous to this at another preschool. I have also taught religious education classes at my church for 8 years. I have been involved with cub scouts and boy scouts for 13 years and continue with it even though my son got his Eagle Scout 2 years ago. So I have been involved in education for the past 35 years. My philosophy of education has been to teach children by letting them explore subjects by using their five senses. By teaching this way every learning style is used and the children have fun exploring with their eyes, ears, hands, nose, and mouth. I have also enjoyed introducing new subjects and materials and let the children explore them and ask questions about them. This has been a great inquisitive way to learn.
I have been married to Fred, my high school sweetheart for 33 years. My husband works in the computer field as a systems analyst. We have lived in Memphis for 16 years and lived in Charlotte, NC and Pittsburgh, PA before that. My son will be a junior at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fl. He is a marine biology major. I enjoy watercolor classes, crafts, sewing, scrap booking, gardening, reading and cooking.
