Preschool 4s Curriculum
We will learn many things this year in Preschool, but everything will be anchored in God’s Word, as we “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”(2Peter 3:18) Your child will learn many Bible stories and songs this year and many, many Bible verses as well.
Our theme for this school year is "God Knows Your Name." Our Bible verse is from John 10:14, "I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me." Using that theme, we will learn many things from God's Word concerning our worth to Him as His lambs. As Jesus served us, our class will also find many opportunities to serve others this year. We will send hand painted greeting cards to our church shut-in members, and recite scripture and sing Christian songs to our church’s Wednesday morning ladies Bible study group many times during the school year.
In academic areas I will teach:
Reading Readiness: Writing and recognizing names, letters and their sounds, activities that teach left-to-right progression. (I.e. counting on a calendar, spelling letters in their names) We will also work in journals this year, with the children drawing themed pictures and dictating stories to tell about their artwork. This is a great activity to teach the connection between pictures and written words.
Math Skills: We will engage in age appropriate math skills such as learning to recognize and write the numbers to 12. We will also use our calendar each day to count the days of the month and learn patterning
and sequencing. Other math development activities will include counting, sorting, patterning, and positional concepts learning.
Motor Skills: We will enjoy many activities to develop fine motor skills: cutting, writing, tracing, puzzles, and games.
Social Skills: Learning social skills is very important at the preschool level, and we will learn to take turns, cooperate with friends, follow directions, respect others with words and actions, share and serve others.
My Philosophy:
I believe that encouraging children to become independent will foster a life-long love for learning and trying new things. Even children this young can be encouraged to work together, celebrating the differences God created in us, developing a strong sense of acceptance that will go with them all through their lives.
